French transportation futurists Venturi have unveiled Astrolab, the world’s first commercially available Electric-Solar Hybrid vehicle at the Paris Motor Show.

This strangely designed, yet innovative Hybrid car takes its energy from the sun in order to move. The solar Commuter placed at the top of this vehicle is capable of working with very little energy, 16kW. The best part is, this car gets charged even in motion and it does not need permanent exposure to the sun for movement.

The entire top layer of this car (see the picture) is nothing but a 3.6 square-meter layer of today’s most advanced way of delivering solar energy, the photovoltaic cells.
Astrolab has a top speed of 120 km/h and a minimum range of 110 kilometers. Its exterior follows the designing ethics of a formula one car as it uses an ultra-light carbon monocoque chassis.

What makes this car stand first amongst it breed is the fact that this a’int a mere a showcar, this toy like car is scheduled for delivery in January 2008 , with a price tag of 9,200 euros .
