This new concept AutoTram® is up to 36 meters long and can carry as many passengers as a streetcar can! But, at the same time it is as versatile as a bus. The special feature of the bus that makes it environment-friendly is its being energy efficient.
This modular vehicle has a flywheel energy storage system, which is capable of absorbing part of the braking energy, lowering its operating costs. Its hybrid drive concept helps the vehicle draw its power from a 180-kW diesel engine and a flywheel energy storage system (4 kWh/200 kW).
The AutoTram is a unique marriage of a train and a bus, as far as its advantages are concerned. Depending on the passenger-volume at a particular time, the vehicle can either be operated as a single bus - with its two modules then separated — or assembled to form a uni-directional or bi-directional high-capacity vehicle.
