The trend study of past few years shows that consumers are now more oriented towards the hybrid cars and so have the manufacturers joined the race to capitalize the trend. With increasing demand of hybrid cars demand for better batteries have also increased.

A company named ExxonMobil has developed a new manufacturing technique to produce polymer films that have higher melting temperatures. This polymer film is a microporous film that is used as a separator between the electrodes of lithium batteries. The film has an advantage of high melting temperature and thus increases thermal safety of a battery considerably. The company uses petrol to produce these polyolefin films and has already started commercial production of the product.
