chevrolet-equinox-fuel-cell_59The Los Angeles Times today reported that GM has developed an Electric Car Concept, which uses Internal Combustion engine only as an Electric Generator. This new prototype is scheduled for a debut sometime next year.

The prototype will run on Lithium-ion batteries that will be supplemented by power generated from an onboard gasoline or diesel powered motor when the change runs low. The Concept car would require charging on a daily basis, with a 20 to 30 miles range per charge after which the additional power generated by the internal combustion engine would come into play.

There are no details available about the appearance of this prototype but it is speculated that it would share some parts with the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell, which uses a similar ‘onboard fuel source conversion into power’ modus operandi .
