The world of hybrid cars just can’t have enough of the Prius. Here’s another first for this car. The Prius is now certified to Japanese 2015 fuel economy standards with JC08 test cycle, the first vehicle to do so.

Japan revised its existing weight based fuel economy standards in December 2006 and raised the number of weight bins from nine to sixteen. The JC08 cycle is a tough nut to crack. It is longer, has higher average and maximum speeds, and requires more aggressive acceleration than the older 10-15 cycle. This test increases the stringency of testing by about 9%.
Toyota Prius is, however a class in its own. The vehicle returned a fuel economy of 63.3mpg US for the JC08 test, how difficult is this test compared to the current 10-15 cycle can be established considering that the fuel economy of the Prius for the 10-15 cycle was 83.5mpg US.

2015 fuel economy standards targets range from 52.9 mpg US for vehicles weighing under 600kg, to 17.4mpg US for vehicles weighing more than 2271 kg.

The Prius has definitely put up a show. That the vehicle is already set for the 2015 fuel economy standards, definitely makes the Prius worthy of praise.
