The GM-Allison hybrid electric buses plying on the roads of King County Metro (KCM) Transit in King County, WA deliver 27% better fuel economy compared to the conventional diesels.
The final report of the National Renewable Laboratory published recently on the GM-Allison hybrid electric buses reveals this on its 12 months (April 2005 to March 2006) of performance data on ten 60-ft New Flyer buses. These buses use the two-mode hybrid power-train.
Compared to the diesel $1.25 per mile, the combined fuel and maintenance costs of the hybrids gave a distinct operational economic advantage– $1.06 per mile. Detailed results of this testing reveal marked benefits to the hybrids.
