Toyota was all set to replace the nickel-metal hydride battery pack with the lithium-ion batteries which hold certain advantages over the former as these new batteries are compact, light, and packing a sizable storage capacity. These batteries are much neater and are technologically advanced.

But citing some safety concerns Toyota has delayed its plan to use these new lithium-ion batteries as the company fears the troubles that could encounter due to its usage as in past their was a big issue related to exploding PC battery scandal that rocked Sony last year. I think this step by the company is wise that will give them some more time to watch the performance and ensure that the deal does not leads the company to major losses due to vehicle recall.
