We had recently reported on the fact that Toyota was planning to cut the cost of hybrid vehicles but contrary to this the company has launched its most expensive gasoline-electric vehicle ‘ the $124,000 luxury sedan Lexus LS’ in Japan.
Toyota being pioneer in hybrid technology has dozens of patents on the technology and has sold more hybrids than any other automaker.
The company projects a bright future of this technology and plans to jump its sale of HEV’s up to one million by the year 2010.
Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe said the technology for hybrid systems can be applied to power other types of vehicles, which run on fuel other than gas, including biofuels and hydrogen. The company has introduced two other hybrid Lexus models that will go for sale in different countries gradually.
Hybrid technology is the key to success for the company and is also helpful in reduction of carbon emission and reduces global warming.
