I came across an interesting article about electric cars on The Dispatch. The writer, Eric Frazier shares a rather new piece of information, stating that Ford Motor Co. has launched one-of-a-kind high-energy battery to power small cars for city driving, and that too an affordable one. Actually, what took me by surprise, as much as the writer, was the date of publication of that paper– Oct. 3, 1966.
Gosh, that is 40 years ago - so where are such batteries and such cars now? Of course, Ford did not give the exact date for launching such a battery, I presume to escape questions and accusations. Therefore, 40 years later we still have not seen such cars but the only step Ford took as close to fulfilling this declaration is a contrasting step to back out of hybrids for ethanol. Had Ford fulfilled its promise, we will all be driving around in electric cars 15 times electrically stronger than the lead-acid batteries of today. Ford does have a reputation of backing out from its promises.
